On Thursday, Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order requiring people traveling by airway from the New York Tri-State area to self-quarantine for 14 days.

In addition, Gov. Abbott issued a similar quarantine advisory for people traveling from the City of New Orleans by air into the state of Texas.

The orders do not apply to people traveling by motor vehicle or train into the state.

Texas Department of Public Safety will run and enforce the self-quarantine, Abbott said. People entering the state from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut must designate their quarantine location and provide additional identifying information. DPS troopers will conduct visits to those locations to confirm they are complying with the self-quarantine.

Failure to comply is punishable by $1,000 or a jail sentence by up to 180 days, Gov. Abbott said.

During the period of quarantine, no visitors are allowed out of or into the designated quarantine location and the people in quarantine shall not visit public spaces.
