Coronavirus Cases in Texas Continue to Climb

Coronavirus cases in Texas continue to skyrocket.

Texas now has 1,731 cases of people with the Covid-19 virus resulting in 23 deaths, according to the Texas Health and Human Services Department. To date, 23,666 people have been tested.

Dallas County has the most cases with 367, followed by Harris County with 203, Travis County with 137 and Bexar County with 113, according to the Texas Health and Human Services, which posts its data at noon every day.

But by Friday evening, Austin-Travis County reported Covid-19 cases had climbed to 160 and one death, according to Austin Public Health.

The patient who died was a woman over the age of 70 with significant underlying health conditions.

The coronavirus kills older people at a higher rate with 80 percent of U.S. deaths occurring in people older than 65, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But in Austin-Travis Country, the most positive cases are occurring in people younger than 40, which means “a spread amongst our healthiest population will be deadliest for our at-risk population,” according to Austin Public Health.
